Nettle Fibre Workshop with Brigitte Kaltenbacher of Beekay Makes.

Have you ever wondered how to make fibre from nettles? Now is your chance to find out!

Brigitte is a sustainable handweaver and textile designer working with nettle yarn. She will demonstrate how to extract fibre from nettles for use as string or for spinning.

Cost: £65 including refreshments. Register your interest at defashion.dorset@gmail.com

The nettle day:

The day usually starts at 10 am with nettle foraging, followed by making nettle cordage from green fresh nettles. In the afternoon we work from prepared retted nettle straw to gain nettle fibre. During processing we will share stories and learn about nettle tales and folklore. We will also explore a few basic and easy ways to spin too.

Participants  will go away with a printed hand-out, your own lock of nettle fibre, some nettle string and a small length of spun nettle yarn. Everything you need to start processing your own nettle fibre!
